Athlete of the Month: Kendra Madden
“When I think of Crossfit 128 I can’t help but smile. I have found myself again and I am so thankful. Thank you everyone for welcoming me, pushing me, cheering me on, and for all the conversations.
I had just had my second son and I was disgusted with myself. Not only did my clothes not even come close to fitting but I felt terrible. I was a collegiate athlete and working out was always a huge part of my life. I couldn’t figure out how to get back to that. I tried boot camps, 30 min videos, and running but I couldn’t stick with any of it. Lindsy had always talked about Crossfit and how much she loved it. I would always say I could never do any of that stuff and everyone seems like they would be so intimidating. (I still can’t do a lot of the stuff but I was so wrong about the people) Lindsy pushed me to go to a class with her and I am so glad she did. I don’t remember the exact workout but I remember it involved a lot of wall balls and me trying not to throw-up.
I am far from the strongest or fastest at the gym. I was so intimidated by the Open and I remember contemplating signing up because I didn’t want to hold anyone back or get in the way. I mentioned thinking about signing up to Suzie and Mike and they both pushed me to do it without hesitation. I am so glad they did. The Open introduced me to so many people at the gym I hadn’t met. The support I got from everyone was unparalleled to anything I have experienced. I felt like a part of a team not a gym.
After over a year at Crossfit I can’t believe how far I have come. I have been able to improve my squats – pushing my knees out, chest up and getting lower. My burpees actually look like a burpee. I used to have to do one leg at a time. I can now not only jump rope but I can do about three double unders. I think my proudest moment (After being Athlete of the Month) was when I did a box jump during Mike’s Saturday class. I was so excited I screamed during the workout and was telling everyone. This is all thanks to the Coach’s and members. Thank you all.”
