Athlete of the Month: Louise Touchette
“I have always thought of myself as an active person; I was a gymnast and cheerleader when I was younger and for many years I taught aerobics. As my family continued to grow and I fell in love with the fast-paced, crazy lifestyle of real estate I found it hard to commit to exercising regularly. I tried a bunch of different gyms and exercise classes but none of them were for me. I will never forget the first time I tried CrossFit; I walked in the studio and was the only person there for the class. I walked up to Suzie, introduced myself and told her I would come back another time, she insisted I stay for a solo-class and I have been hooked ever since.
There have been some times that have tested my commitment to CrossFit. When I first joined CrossFit I regularly attended the 6:00am class, however, when my daughter told me she wanted breakfast every morning I had to either ditch the gym or find another solution. I am now a part of the 5:00am crew, often still half asleep when I get there. Though earlier than I would like, it is something I have grown to love.
There are many reasons why I have stayed and become a regular at CrossFit, one of the major reasons being the coaches. If Suzie had not made me stay the first time I walked in, or jokingly tease me to try harder in classes, I would not be athlete of the month. I love all the morning coaches; Britney, Kevin, Deena, as well as the rest of the 5am class who are such an inspiration to me every day. When I started CrossFit I would read the daily workout the night before and freak myself out, now I don’t even bother looking and realized whatever it is, is a challenge I will get through.
In real estate I have been lucky to win multiple awards, including broker of the month, however, I have never been as thrilled and honored as I am to win the athlete of the month award. I always enjoy bringing my friends along to try it out for themselves. Though I may not be the youngest or the fastest I love it regardless. CrossFit is something I am lucky to say I have been a part of for three years now. Watching you all gives me so much inspiration to keep coming back. Thank you for being like a second family to me!”
