Athlete of the Month: Mike Jolin

“Suzie: How would you like to be Athlete of the Month??

Me: (while warming up during Kevin’s 6PM class) Me? Sure? I mean yes of course haha. I was a little caught off guard as i’ve never been asked to be athlete of the month so I was a little lost for words.

I think my surprise response was due to the fact when I started CrossFit I was out of shape, weighed a lot more than Id like to admit, barley made it through my intro class and wasn’t sure I was cut out for anything more than running on the treadmill and sticking to that globo gym life. Luckily my buddy who started out with me was hooked and his excitement was contagious so figured what the hell lets do this.

My first month or so was nothing to write home to mom about until I hurt my knee and thought well heres my out / use this injury to walk away without having to give much explanation other than I’m hurt and cant do the movements.

After emailing back and forth with the former owner of Crossfit Avalon and one of the coaches they convinced me to rehab my knee with very scaled back programming / exercises and if I wasnt happy with the progress of my knee getting better I could stop.

Honestly it was one of the best decisions ive ever made to stick it out as I was able to get my knee better, started losing the extra weight and all around my workouts were better, I was feeling better physically and even more so mentally.

I could continue to ramble on about other Crossfit stories in the 4 years since I started but to save Suzie from running out of space on the blog.. Thank you Crossfit 128 for welcoming my wife Shannon and I into the community and look forward to more workouts, cookouts and just regular ole gatherings with everyone.”
