Athlete of the Month: Irene Oliver
Growing up, I was always active and played sports. I played field hockey through college, but once college was over, I found myself struggling to get to the gym. I would go for 3 months, then I would take a 3 month break. This went on for about 10 years, ha! In 2011, I had my first daughter, Nina, and for the next year, I was eating ice cream in bed (I still do that in some capacity, I know, none of you are surprised by that). I was happy eating ice cream BUT I needed to do something and I needed to do something that I would enjoy and I needed to stick with it. I saw someone I knew doing this CrossFit thing, and it peaked my interest. Here I am 5 years later and I am hooked. I did take a break in between to have my second (crazy, yet lovable) daughter, Mia, but I got right back into it and Crossfit 128 helped me do that. Crossfit 128 has helped me to teach my daughter’s to be strong! It is awesome to see them wanting to jump into a workout and mimic the movements. CF 128 has been my second home ever since the 5am classes began (thanks Suzie and Danielle). There are two great things about 128, the people and the coaches. I have been to a few CrossFit gyms and the community here is something special and not like the others. Everyone is motivating, encouraging, inspiring and supportive. I enjoy watching everyone push themselves and we all have fun doing it (we may complain occasionally, but we push through it and we do that together). Shout out to everyone at 128, but a special shout out to some of the 5am crew, who I worry about, when I don’t see them for a few days, ha! You always push me through the WOD’s/lifts and hold me accountable (I hope I don’t forget anyone): Joe B, George, Erik, Nate, Mike D, and Craig and some of the new 5am’ers, Amanda, Paula, Sam (I am not the only female anymore, yeah!) The other great thing about 128, are the coaches. Suzie, Danielle, Britt, Adam and Deena have all helped me in some way over the last 3 years. Thanks for your guidance and thanks for the kick-ass programming! Shout out to Brady Omelett who has also grown on me, oh and Tom Brady, I mean, I can’t forget TB12! Lastly, we all have 2 things to tackle coming up: 1. This ½ marathon on 1 October, I am taking some of you with me, so let’s hit this goal we have been training for and finish this together! And 2. Let’s tackle this nutrition challenge all together! Thanks Crossfit 128! I look forward to continuing this CrossFit journey with all of you!
