Athlete of the Month: Craig Williams
“In Summer 2014, I had been recently asked to leave (fired) from my dream job and while driving my kids around town, I noticed a sign for a new CrossFit gym opening near my house. I took the information and sent an email to find out the details about membership and opening date. I immediately heard back from Danielle and signed me and my wife (CarolAnn) to join. On Monday, August 4, 2014, at 5:30 AM, CarolAnn and I attended our first ever CrossFit class. I think there were about 6 of us in the class and including us, Randall, and Kerry! I still remember my wife saying, “You know that super fit woman I was working out with? That was Danielle’s, Mom!” Unfortunately, CarolAnn bowed out after her first day doing Power Snatch’s, but I have been hooked since.
Over the last three years, I have been completely amazed by the growth of CrossFit 128. Membership has grown consistently from those early months, our 5:30 AM class was turned into two classes, and I moved to a 5:00 AM group! I have been amazed by the sense of community and friendship that has been cultivated in the club. Even though I do not often participate in the group outings and events, it makes me proud to be part of the CrossFit 128 community. Suzie and Danielle should be really, really proud of what they have created here.
As for myself, CrossFit has become a major part of my life. Originally, I just wanted to be able to fit into my suits, but I show up every day and compete. I remember thinking that I would never be able to do any WOD RX, but in 2017 I did all of the Open workouts RX! Unfortunately, my wife, daughters, and son, still don’t care and won’t humor any of my CrossFit exploits (but they do enjoy making fun of my growing CrossFit tshirt collection). Thank goodness, I have my 5:00 AM crew to keep pushing me forward! I owe a lot to Joe B, Dan, George, Erik, Nate and Irene that set the pace and even when I am not feeling it, make me compete as hard as I can.
Thank you CrossFit 128!”
