Athlete of the Month: Eddie Romero
” Growing up I was always active and into sports. In highscool, I played Varsity Football and also Track and Field. One month before my 19th birthday in 2004, I was in a car accident which left me with a fractured neck, over 300 stitches to my face and head, as well as 20 staples to the top of my head. Being physically unable to workout plus no kind of healthy diet led to a weight gain of over 60 pounds in 2 years. Finally better, I still found myself unable to stick to a diet and workout routine at a regular gym (planet fitness). In 2014 I got into running 5/10k races which helped to drop weight. Around the same time, I came across ‘The Crossfit Games’ videos on youtube. Very interested but also intimidated by crossfit I held off on walking through the doors. I did some homework, and saw a crossfit competition at Revere Beach in 2015. The next day I walked into Crossfit 128 and was greeted by Suzie and signed up for my first class. Right away I was hooked. Crossfit for me has brought back a competitiveness from sports and a community of great people who motivate me and unknowingly keep me accountable. The coaching staff here has been great, always positive and pushing me, from my first Power Clean to entering my first competition. Crossfit has made me the strongest version of myself physically, increasing my performance in 5/10k races, Spartan races, and just everyday activities we sometimes take for granted. I have more fitness goals and I look forward to achieving them with the help of Crossfit.”
