Athlete of the Month: Marisa Cerra
“I really dont have a great story or even athletic history (I know thats hard to believe, hahaha) as to why I started crossfit. When Joe and I started dating I was doing barre classes routinely and they would randomly have a “bring on the men” class. I somehow got Joe to agree to go with only if I would then go to a crossfit class with him. Now me being me, I thought, yeah ok, me, crossfit, yeah no. There is no way he will hold me to that, lets just get him to a barre workout. So I did and he actually did hold me to going to a class. I had zero idea of what was about to happen: a barbell, WTF is that? A bench press? Hmmmmmm. But I loved it. I loved being super uncomfortable in something that I knew nothing about. Was it intimidating at first, hell yeah. I legit had never lifted a weight heavier then 5lbs before and had no idea about the movements, terms, lingo that was about to be thrown at me. The more classes I went to, the more comfortable I got and the better I started to feel. I canceled my barre membership and never went back. Crossfit really challenges you in so many aspects and I love that about it. No matter what time of day I go, the group is always encouraging and supportive and just straight up fun, you guys have a solid group of people at the gym. Its not just a physical change/improvement that one gets out of the workouts, its mental as well. Its just an all around good time and I am thankful that Joe pushed me into that first class as its made me a stronger person all around.”
