Athlete of the Month: Barry Cossette

Barry joined CrossFit 128 Fall of 2016 with his wife Lauren. Both being a little nervous at first (as we all are the first time we walk through those doors) but it didn’t take long before they were hooked! Barry has been putting in a lot of extra time into improving skill work, coming in early to work on double unders, taking time to perfect his pull up, and doing some extra strength on the side. He was our runner up in the Paleo Challenge (with amazing results) and most recently getting his first mar muscle up in 17.2. Barry is a great all around guy and a very hard worker that is eager to learn! Here is what he has to say about his journey so far:

“What got me into CrossFit? For the past few years I kept on “trying” to get back into shape but could never stick to a routine. Then Lauren asked me if I’d join CrossFit with her. At first I was too intimidated by the intensity of the workouts that other people described and wouldn’t even consider it. Then I turned 39 and realized that I was going down that road of packing on the pounds while doing nothing about it. So I told myself that I wanted to be in the best shape I have been in since turning 30. Again I watched the months pass until September 2016. With only 4 months until I turned 40 I finally got off my ass and walked through the glass door with Lauren to take our first intro to CrossFit with Suzie. Well, it kicked my ass and I loved it! Looking back that was probably just a regular warm up but boy was it hard at that time. I can happily say now that I’m 40 I am most definitely in better shape now than I have been in the previous decade. I want to thank all of you who have given me tips, advice, encouragement and pushed me each and every workout. And huge thanks to Danielle, Suzie, Adam and Brittany for being such great coaches!”
